Secular Morality is Better than Biblical Morality

Doing what is right, no matter what one is told.

Fact 1: Religious Morality Causes Evil

· These are just some of the atrocities that have happened in the name of Abrahamic religions, and some of these are happening at the time of typing:

· Gays, witches, and other races and ethnicities were enslaved and murdered in the name of God according to the old-testament.

· Roman emperors forced Christianity on their subject under terrible penalty.

· Later rulers forced Christianity upon others and subjects via torture and death.

· Gays and those suspected of “witchcraft” were executed by burning and other atrocious methods.

· White Christians destroyed and eradicated the lives and well-being in America, Australia, Africa, and other places in an effort to “Civilize and Christianize” during the colonization of those locations.

· 90% of all Native Americans were murdered in genocide and their land stolen from them by Christians from Europe who believed that the authority of their god and godly kings in Europe gave them such a right to do so.

· African Americans were enslaved under the authority of the bible.

· Wounded Knee, Trail of Tears, and other atrocities against Native Americans were entirely Christian-based.

· The same arguments used against same-sex marriage were used to ban interracial marriages.

· Thousands of books and scientific papers on gays and transgender people were burned by the Nazis because it went against their theist beliefs.

· Millions of Jews and over 100,000 homosexuals among others were exterminated by Nazi death camps because Hitler thought he was “doing the lords work” (Mein Kampf, Vol. 1 Chapter 2; Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Vol. 1 Chapter 8).

· Even after the camps were liberated, homosexuals and queers, who were often given the worst work and treatment, were sent back to prison by the same judges that sentenced them to die in the first place.

· Conversion therapy to “cure” homosexuals and/or their behavior was used by the Nazis, and continues in various forms today.

· 9/11 where over 3000 people were murdered in the name of the God of Abraham.

· LGBT people are jailed and killed all around the world because of Abrahamic-Religious beliefs.

· Churches that vilify gays also tend to vilify racial justice while glorifying the capital insurrectionists.

· Anti-LGBT churches and their religious beliefs are directly responsible for the attack on the Capitol given the mindset and mentality that such religions employ.

· Native Americans were not granted religious freedom until the 1970’s; prior to that a child of a Native American family could be taken forcibly by the state and given to a Christian family who would overwrite the indigenous identity of the child with a Christian mindset.

· “Parents” abusing and disowning children for being LGBT; causing them to account for half of all homeless youth and greatly increasing the likelihood of them getting forced into human trafficking for survival.

· Discrimination against LGBT people and non-Christian/Aryan people in society.

There are other atrocities by other faiths as well, including religious followings of state and political figures such as Stalin, Mao, etc. Of course, I don’t think those require much of an introduction to Christians reading this since they try to make a strawman in response to the above where they say “atheism” leads to the above. However, atheism is an absence of a belief, not a belief, and is concerned with a single issue: the existence of god. The truth stands that religious and dogmatic reverence to an authority of any kind is why the above happen.

The following are atrocities in the bible: Slavery (Exodus 21, Lev 25, Peter 2:18), genocide of Jericho, killing of all infants in the flood, killing of innocent children in Egypt, etc. There is no good reason for a good book to have what is plainly and clearly evil and indefensible.

Why Religious Morality Fails

The above clearly shows that religious morality is evil, that it causes evil, for all of the above are clearly evil to any honest and rational person. But why is this? Why does religious morality cause such pain and suffering? Because religious morality is about doing what you are told, no matter how many innocent people suffer or die as a result.

The foundation of religious morality is absolute obedience to absolute authority for the profit and power of that authority. This is illustrated by the fact that LGBT youth account for half of all homeless youth while the churches that vilify them make billions of dollars a year and pay no taxes, but insist that they are the persecuted ones.

The mechanism of religious morality is a god that doesn’t exist, superstitions, faith which is not caring about truth or about other people, and a loophole. When one believes in absurdities, they will commit atrocities. When one believes in irrational things, they will do irrational things which often harms others. When people do not care about others, they will believe in absurdities and harm others. When people have a loophole where they can pray and be forgiven, there is no incentive to actually do good to others. When people think that god will fix the Earth at the end, it gives them no incentive to make a planet that can be handed down to the next generation. Religion gives people a golden excuse to not care about others, to not think critically, and thus a golden excuse to do evil.

The ultimate end of religious morality is making a hell on Earth for non-Aryans, for those who do not fit in with the in-group. Therefore, it is no surprise that we end up with the above atrocities from Fact 1 and many, many more. What is even worse is that when religion vilifies innocent people such as gays, they feel brave and superior even though they themselves are the privileged while their victims struggle just to survive.

Why Secular Morality is Better

The foundation for secular morality is promoting well-being and minimizing suffering for other people. It entails doing what is good for others, even if that means disobeying authority. Unlike religious morality which starts with absolute obedience, secular morality puts the well-being of others first. It is an objective fact that humans generally prefer: life over death, pleasure over pain, health over sickness, freedom over slavery, wealth over poverty, etc. Whereas, religious morality disregards well-being and is founded on the subjective interpretation of myth and scripture.

The mechanism for secular morality is empathy, reason, and critical thought. We empathize with other people whereas religion often teaches people to hate the out-group. Our caring about others is a guide and is mixed with reason and critical thought: we demand good reasons for believing things, we care about the truth and others instead of just believing really hard in what we really like aka faith. We also think critically about what information people tell us: we question information and authority whereas religion demands blind obedience to claims and authority.

The ultimate end for secular morality is to build an Earthy heaven, as much as it is possible to do so. This is in stark contrast to the Earthy hell that religion creates. We demand equal treatment for gays and others. We demand that people acknowledge that slavery was and is always immoral. We demand as many liberties as possible for all humans as possible. We don’t base our beliefs and conclusions on an archaic book of violence and savagery. We don’t base our beliefs on irrational things and superstitions.

Is it any wonder that the most secular European countries tend to have the best quality of life whereas the US is dead last in education, healthcare, life expectancy, etc? It is such a threat to religious authority that the religious Reich has dumped millions of dollars to politically influence European politics hence Brexit, rabid transphobia, etc.

Stolen Achievements

The Religious Reich is such a parasite on society that it claims responsibility for things like the legalization of interracial marriage and our freedoms. To the contrary: the reich used the same arguments against interracial marriage that they did against same-sex marriage (Loving v Virginia), and our founders, while far from perfect and all that I would desire, didn’t want to be ruled by a Christian king either and deliberately allowed the First Amendment to violate the First Commandment. The end of slavery, racial integration, and all of the liberal progress that we have made thus far are because of secularism and secular morality. To understand this, just ask who is trying to undo these gains in freedom and progress? It isn’t the “woke” left.

Conclusion

It is clear that secular moral systems make people less violent, less irrational, less controlling, and less evil and more caring and more moral. It is clear that religious morality isn’t even morality at all, it is just following orders. Good people will do good, evil people will do evil, but it takes religion to make an otherwise-good person to do evil.

This is the real danger of fundamentalist religion: it allows people by the billions to believe the things of lunatics, nazis, and psychopaths; which in turn causes massive suffering and deaths upon the innocent. Sam Harris put it best: if you think saying a few Latin words on a pancake will turn it into the body of Elvis, you are called crazy. But if you do the same to a cracker and think that it will turn the cracker into the body of Jesus, it’s just religion. If an atheist were to sexually abuse a Christian child to turn them to atheism, they will be jailed. If a fundamentalist Christian does the same to LGBT kids, they are called holy and it is legalized in all 50 states under religious freedom.
